Plugins turn your notes into the app you need
A note is a file. A plugin is a small program that reads it. Here is how the two fit together.

Loam keeps every note as a plain Markdown file on your disk. Nothing is locked inside the app.
A plugin reads those files and adds a view on top of them: a task board, a reading list, a weekly review. The notes stay where they are.
What a plugin can do
- Read and write Markdown files in your vault
- Add panels, commands and shortcuts
- Run locally, with no account required
The notebook becomes whatever you need, and your notes remain yours.
