Terms of Service

Effective date: October 30, 2026

Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Loam website at loam.md (the "Website"), which is run by the Loam authors ("we", "us" or "our").

By using the Website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Website. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Website.

Using the Website

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable right to access and use the Website for your personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

  • use the Website in a way that could damage, disable or overload it;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Website or the systems behind it;
  • copy or redistribute Website content, except as the law allows or these Terms permit;
  • use the Website for any unlawful purpose.

We may modify, suspend or discontinue the Website, or any part of it, at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you for any such change.

Loam software and plugins

Loam is free and open-source software. The Loam source code is licensed under the MIT License. That license, not these Terms, governs your use, copying and modification of the source code, and it includes its own disclaimer of warranties.

Plugins for Loam are built by independent developers. We do not control, review or endorse them, and they are not covered by these Terms. Each plugin is subject to its own license and terms.

Loam stores your notes as plain Markdown files on your own disk. You are responsible for keeping your own backups.

Intellectual property

The Website, including its design, text and graphics, and the Loam name and logo, are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. Except under the open-source license above, you may not use our names or logos without our prior written consent. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Feedback

If you send us feedback or suggestions about the Website or Loam, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose, without attribution or compensation. Please do not send feedback that you consider confidential.

Privacy and cookies

Your use of the Website is also governed by our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Third-party services and links

The Website links to third-party services, such as GitHub. We do not control or endorse them, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

Disclaimers

THE WEBSITE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE WEBSITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR FREE OF HARMFUL CODE.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR LOST GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE WEBSITE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE WEBSITE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (I) USD 50 AND (II) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE WEBSITE IN THE SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Loam authors and contributors from any claims and reasonable costs, including attorneys' fees, arising from your use of the Website, your breach of these Terms or your violation of applicable law.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or restrict your access to the Website at any time, for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. The sections on intellectual property, feedback, disclaimers, limitation of liability and disputes will survive any termination.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Website after an update means you accept the updated Terms.
